Sensei Alex Ackerman Biography

Bujinkan Dojo

Alex Ackerman has been a student of Butaijutsu since 1996.  He currently holds the grade of Shodan.  After graduating high school in 1994, Alex attended the United States Air Force Academy where he studied Computer Science and martial arts.  He graduated and was commissioned in May 1998.  He is a communications officer, now serving at RAF Mildenhall, UK.  Alex joined the SHINOBU DOJO team in 1998 when the director, Shidoshi Alex Mordine, recognized him as a licensed Shibu.  Since then, he has been recognized as a Dojocho (head of a dojo) in the SHINOBU DOJO.

Alex has set the main focus of his training within the SHINOBU TOKUGI DOJO to be self-defense.  Although all areas of butaijutsu are taught (ground, standup, and weapons--offensive and defensive), the angle is how to survive in any number of situations.  Students are encouraged to consider realistic scenarios for each technique and develop appropriate responses using the techniques taught in previous lessons.  Although no art or school can accurately recreate the "real world", training is designed to simulate reality as closely as possible.  This is the essence of Shinkengata.  And while martial arts training is inherently dangerous, safety is his "Rule #1".  Students who violate that rule will be asked to leave training.  Nobody learns anything from getting hurt.
