Bujinkan Dojo

Alex Mordine is a teacher and continuing student of Japanese culture who lives and trains in Japan. He holds several rankings from a wide spectrum of arts to include traditional Japanese dance and tea ceremony. After graduating from high school in 1977, he entered the U.S. Army Special Operations Forces. He is a combat veteran who has served as an U.S. Army Ranger and Green Beret Instructor. His active duty military career spanned thirteen years, both as a non-commissioned officer and after graduating from college in 1988, as an officer.  Alex completed his graduate studies while living in Japan.

Alex formed the SHINOBU DOJO in 1994 with the intent of teaching the skills he acquired through years of specialized training in the martial arts and the application of specialized techniques designed specifically for special operations forces and law enforcement organizations around the world. He has developed his own style of martial arts, now internationally recognized as Butaijutsu (martial body skills). Alex has also provided personal protective security/ bodyguard services for many well-known celebrities around the world.  He is the first non-Japanese to establish a Bujinkan Dojo in the country of Japan by authorization of Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi. In 1995, one year after establishing his first of three Dojo in the Tokyo metropolitan area, Alex was presented the Bujinkan Silver Eagle Enbusho Recognition from Masaaki Hatsumi for his continuing dedication in the martial arts. He is the only one to ever receive this award. Alex is also the first non-Japanese to attain the rank of Judan from Masaaki Hatsumi while living in the country of Japan.

Alex’s concept of footwork integrated into the tenses of time has changed the lives of martial artists from all walks of life, improving their own balance, distance, and timing. His ability to mesh stand-up fighting skills, weapons skills, and ground-fighting skills into a single, interwoven style of Taijutsu (body skills), has been paramount to establishing a new standard in the martial arts world.
