Excerpt from the Introduction:

INTRODUCTION

This book was written over the space of two years through which, just by asking people for information regarding history, I was always told "I'm sorry but I don't know anything, but do you know that.....".

All the history within this book must therefore not be taken as absolute truth. Read books by Hatsumi Sensei. He recounts the same events different every time.  The history I have written is the way I see it, with the information I have collated. So, I may be completely wrong.  The one thing that is 100%, are the lists of Soke. They have been supplied by Hatsumi Sensei, and the English pronunciation corrected by him in person.

This book is designed for enjoyment, and encourage people to delve into history themselves.

The Japanese think that westerners dig too deep into history. Do not become stuck on history alone, study Taijutsu, then you will understand, why some of these events maybe happened, or what could have happened. With your studies in history, you may understand why various techniques are done the way they are, and why some Kamae, appear to be off balance (try them on a rocking boat, they may come on balance)
